Abbey House
Abbey House at 219-229 Baker Street, designed by John James Joss and completed in 1932. It features a beautiful lighthouse bas-relief - the focus of our model. Carved in Portland stone above the central entrance, the intricate sculpture depicts a classical lighthouse amid swirling waves, symbolising guidance and maritime heritage—a nod to London's mercantile past. The building has twice been mostly demolished with the tower and facade saved. Preserved as part of the building's Grade II listing, the bas-relief remains a charming historical footnote, inviting modern passersby to appreciate early 20th-century craftsmanship and storytelling in the heart of bustling Baker Street. The building also includes the former boarding house, at 221B Baker Street, of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s fictional detective Sherlock Holmes.
Address: Abbey House, 219 Baker Street, London, NW1 6XE, England.
