Hepworth Gallery Wakefield was designed by architect David Chipperfield primarily to house the Hepworth collection, it opened in 2011. Chipperfield won an architectural design competition organised by RIBA. His design is outstanding and was shortlisted for the Stirling prize in 2012.

Chipperfield has produced a stunning new build, using local materials, modern – yet reflective of and in keeping with its environment.

The building lures you in across an elegant bridge. Then you are presented with ten trapezoidal blocks, each housing galleries, auditoriums, cafe’s and other visitor facilities. The brutalist design may not be universally popular but for Chisel & Mouse this building is one of the highlights of British architecture in last decade.

We were delighted to be approached by the gallery to produce this sculpture, it is smaller than the majority of our collection but its distinctive style means that it remains imposing.

Each of our architectural sculptures is handmade in our studio in Sussex, England. They are made of strong plaster that has a reassuring weight and smooth, cool feel. The window frames and door are made of etched brass. Stylish ornaments, gifts or presents that are handmade in Britain and look fabulous on a desk, shelf or wall.

Address Hepworth Gallery, Wakefield, West Yorkshire WF1 5AW, England.

Sustainably Crafted

We all want the world to be a better place. We are trying to do our bit. We reuse, recycle and use less where we can. We search out sustainable local suppliers. We sponsor grassroots sports for the local youth, donating both money and time. We sponsor local environmental projects. We know we can do more but we're making a start!

Handmade

We hand make all of our models. Chisel & Mouse is the combination of an artisan’s approach (the chisel) with modern innovation and transformative technologies (the mouse). By capturing life and its big ideas in miniature, the brand celebrates the beauty of our industrialised world.
