The Flatiron was designed by Daniel Burnham, a founder of the ‘Chicago School’ style of architecture. Completed in 1902 the building was built using a unique steel skeleton which became the prototype for many skyscrapers that followed.

The building was not initially greeted with public acclaim, but soon became a symbol of New York and is considered the nations first true skyscraper. Its distinctive clothes ‘iron’ shape gives the building its name. Built at the intersection of Broadway and Fifth Avenue, the ‘Architectural Record’ suggested the building “resembled a ship sailing up the Avenue.”

The Flatiron has become one of New York’s must see tourist attractions – a true city icon. Chisel & Mouse have modelled the building in its entirety, enabling you to view the sculpture from each of its unique angles.
