A model of the Monument at Mylasa. This model is a reproduction of a Sir John Soane’s museum collection piece. The original was created by the legendary french model maker Francois Fouquet in the early 1800’s. This Roman tomb was built in the 1st century AD at Mylasa in Turkey in an area now known as Milas. The monument is most likely a simplified copy of the famous tomb of Mausolus in Halicarnassus. The structure has distinctive square corner piers and oval-section columns that support the heavy roof.
