London Cityscape — 3D Map of The Square Mile
London doesn't follow a plan. Unlike the radial geometry of Paris or the rigid grid of Chicago, the City of London grew street by street over two millennia — Roman fort, medieval lanes, fire, rebuilding, bomb damage, regeneration — and the result is a cityscape unlike any other in the world. This model captures that organic layering at a 1:5000 scale across the Square Mile, from the ancient footprint of the Tower of London to the cluster of towers that now defines its skyline: the Gherkin, the Cheesegrater, the Walkie Talkie, Tower 42.
Cast in white resin and mounted in an oak frame, it works equally well hanging on a wall or displayed flat on a tabletop or desk.
The area
The model focuses on the City of London — the historic Square Mile — encompassing the dense fabric of streets and courts that has accumulated since Roman Londinium, and the modern tower cluster that rises above it. The contrast between those two scales is one of the things that makes this area so compelling as a 3D object: ancient lanes packed tight against towers that now rank among Europe's most recognisable buildings.
Notable buildings visible in the model include: Tower of London · 30 St Mary Axe (The Gherkin) · 122 Leadenhall Street (The Cheesegrater) · 20 Fenchurch Street (The Walkie Talkie) · Tower 42
