Paris Arc de Triomphe Cityscape — 3D Map of Haussmann's Paris

Paris was redesigned from the inside out. Between 1852 and 1870, Baron Georges-Eugène Haussmann demolished swathes of the medieval city on the orders of Napoleon III and replaced them with the broad, tree-lined boulevards, uniform stone facades and formal rond-points that define central Paris today. The result is one of the most deliberate and coherent acts of city planning in history — and one of the most immediately legible from above.

This model is centred on the Arc de Triomphe at 1:5000 scale, placing the great triumphal arch and its radiating star of twelve boulevards at the heart of the frame. Cast in white resin and mounted in an oak frame, the Haussmann geometry is visible at a glance — a city built not to evolve organically but to project power, order and grandeur in every direction simultaneously.

The area

The model covers the 8th arrondissement and its immediate surroundings, with the Place Charles de Gaulle — the rond-point from which twelve boulevards radiate outward in a star formation — at its centre. The Arc de Triomphe sits at the intersection of those boulevards, commissioned by Napoleon in 1806 and completed in 1836. The Champs-Élysées extends southeast from the arch, cutting its diagonal through the frame. The surrounding street pattern shows Haussmann's urban logic in full: wide straight boulevards cutting across the older city fabric, with the consistent cornice lines and uniform stone facades of the Second Empire apartment blocks lining every one of them. It is a cityscape that could only be Paris.
